Predictable Flexibility

Fall brings with it the likelihood that once again, our comfort and habits could be disrupted by the pandemic. Kids may get sent home from school. Meetings may remain remote. Work may continue to expect us to be plugged in 24/7.

New ways of doing things are hard.

Humans tend to dislike change because with change comes unpredictability. We are at the mercy of Newness, of trying new ways; of making the unfamiliar, familiar.

People -- fear not. We are not going back to square one. If anything, we are going back to experience. We’ve done this! We can do really hard things, and we have 2020 and 2021 to prove it.  Remember ‘forming, storming, and norming’ in group dynamics? Like that model, we are no longer forming our new ways of adapting. We have already done that, been through the storm together, and have collectively figured out the norm.

Putting the norm on pause for a while is daunting, but manageable. No one wants this - even those who are against vaccines don’t want the world on hold anymore, but if that is our reality, the next best thing is to pull from deep inside and hold strong to our resilience, patience, and belief that it is getting better. We are getting better with every lesson learned, and challenges overcome.

We’ve got this; we’ve done this before. We didn’t like it then and we don’t have to like it now, but we can do it and I am happy you are with me for the ride.

Let’s stay connected and get through this together. You can find me on social; Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, or sign up for the newsletter to get fresh content to your inbox every week.
