What Bodies Tell Us

I will not let the week pass without paying not only my respects, but leaving my remarks to Canada's Indigenous Peoples, both living and dead.

To me, the recently uncovered, unmarked (hidden) graves of children at residential schools tell me it's time to wake up.

How could this have happened? It's not that "times were different".

Did you get pulled out of bed in 1980 and taken from your family never to be seen again? No, you didn't.

It's not necessarily that we were okay being complacent and not wanting to know. We were asleep. Numb. Quiet. Looking the other way. Fearful to speak out. And to whom? And say what?

Now we are awake. Stay awake. Please stay awake both to this horrible tragedy and to the way our indigenous people are treated.

Do you have water you can drink? Schools that adequately teach your children? Support systems, medical, dental, social systems to help your kids grow into amazing humans? Then you are not indigenous.

Stay awake.

Let me know what you think, don't be afraid. Please no hate.
